The first year and a half of the pandemic brought on unprecedented levels of mental health issues among young people. At CIS of Renton-Tukwila, Site Coordinator Sebastian led a virtual small group to help students with social-emotional learning during school closures. Students from Thorndyke Elementary had a chance to connect with each other, receive encouragement from a caring adult, and practice skills like emotional regulation, empathy, and self-awareness. Skills like these empower students to express their feelings in positive ways and develop effective coping skills in challenging times.
