Communities in Schools of Washington held its First Annual All Boards Meeting in Tukwila on April 24, 2009. The All Boards meeting was the first of its kind, providing an unprecedented opportunity for board members across the network to come together, share ideas and part take in interactive, focused discussions.
Attending board members, representing affiliates across the state, got the opportunity to eat and mingle before listening to Dan Cardinali, President of CIS National, discuss and answer questions on National Initiatives. After a quick break, Cory Sbarbaro of Turnpoint Consulting, gave a presentation on Board Effectiveness. Cory Sbarbaro, the founder of Turnpoint Consulting, has extensive management, leadership, and research experience with nonprofits. The final thing on the agenda was a Resource Development Discussion focusing on sharing ideas and methods for fundraising that affiliates across the network have tried and found successful.
After the formal part of the meeting came to close, all attending board members, visiting speakers, affiliate executive directors and staff were invited to a hosted reception. Overall, the event was a huge success strengthening the connections among affiliates and highlighting a unique aspect of CIS – a strong network based on collaboration and respect.
