Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
At Communities In Schools, we are here to ensure that every student, regardless of race, zip code, or socioeconomic background has what they need to realize their potential in school and beyond. Working directly inside schools across the state, our local affiliates connect students to caring adults and community resources that help them see, confront, and overcome the barriers that stand between them and a brighter future. Together, we build a powerful change movement made up of peers, students, and alumni committed to shaping an equitable path to education for future generations. Why We Exist
The confusing maze of public and private resources that students, families, and educators are expected to navigate is a very real barrier to student success. Communities In Schools started as a way to help students and families navigate this maze. We believe that communities are integral to student success, so we bring community resources and services directly to students in schools. When students have the tools they need to learn and grow, we believe that they can define success for themselves.
What We Do
Integrated Student Supports
Multi-tiered systems of support have long been key to fostering student well-being and connection. Our work inside schools and communities underscores the potential of a school-based, student-centered system of integrated student supports to help create equitable conditions for learning.
Our model of integrated student supports is not about doing the work for students. It’s about leveling the field by making sure all students have access to the community resources and tools they need to unlock their potential and thrive. Community Organizing, Resource Navigation, and Student Case Management
At the heart of our mission is a caring adult called a site coordinator. Site coordinators serve as resource navigators, case managers, and community organizers. They work in schools every day, walking alongside students to get a deep understanding of the challenges they face. Across our statewide network, our site coordinators build, strengthen and maintain relationships with students and their families—connecting them to the right community resources and tools, and empowering them to use them, to succeed in school and beyond.
