When Ray first came to Communities In Schools of Tacoma, he was struggling to get to where he needed to be academically. In his junior year, he was behind in credits and did not really believe that he deserved more out of life. Then one of his peers referred Ray to CIS, and he started visiting his school’s CIS resource room to get some food. He quickly formed a connection with his Site Coordinator, Ms. Passia, and they began working on some of his goals together. Ray would visit Ms. Passia almost daily, and gradually, his entire outlook on life changed.

Ray started joining Ms. Passia for mindfulness exercises, which helped him improve his mental health and inspired him to create the life he knows he deserves. Ray even gained the courage to speak in front of an audience of 400 community supporters at the CIS of Tacoma Annual Luncheon, sharing his story in the hopes of inspiring everyone to reach out and help other students like him.

Currently, Ray is excelling in his classes and looking forward to graduation, with plans to pursue a career in Mechanical Engineering. We are honored to support and cheer for Ray as he continues to chase his goals!
