About the State Office and Our Washington CIS Network

Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Hear from one of our affiliates, CIS of Whatcom-Skagit, about how Communities In Schools works to position students for a lifetime of success.

In Washington, Communities In Schools operates as a network of 11 independent, local affiliates and a state office. Our affiliates work directly within school ecosystems to help position students for academic success. By partnering with other community agencies, CIS affiliates connect kids and families to resources that help them overcome obstacles and break through to a future of possibilities.

At the state office, we exist to support the efforts of our affiliate network and build their capacity to continue serving kids, in schools and beyond. The year 2020 has certainly brought its share of setbacks and challenges: COVID-19, national reckonings around race, and a turbulent election. These events have exposed broken systems that have historically worked against students and families, from generational poverty to institutional racism and other systemic barriers. We know these systems are too large and complex for any one child, family, or organization to transform alone. That is why we believe in the strength of our CIS affiliate network–because we believe that through adversity, we are stronger together.

We invite you to join our extended team of capacity builders and make a state-level impact. By supporting the state office, you are helping to ensure that CIS is here to serve kids with quality, scalability, and sustainability–in schools and beyond!
